Valid IDs For Kids
The ARRL VEC manual states the following:
"When no photo ID is available, the
candidate must present any two of the following items:
- Non-photo ID/driver's license (some
states still have them);
- Social Security Card (as FCC now
requires each applicant to supply a taxpayer ID number)
- Birth certificate (must have the
appropriate seal);
- Minor's work permit or school report
card;
- Utility bill, bank statement or other
business correspondence that specifically names the person; or
- Postmarked envelope addressed to the
person at his or her current mailing address as it appears on the
Form 605."
Even a video game magazine or Boy Scout
Boy's Life magazine addressed the the child will serve as one of the two
required IDs. Even a school year book can provide photo proof of
the child being tested. Even school report cards can be used.
Anything else of a similar nature that demonstrates child's identity and
residence. By being accompanied by his or
her parent does not satisfy the rule.
FCC News:
As of December 3, 2001, all current amateur radio license holders must
provide their FRN number when applying for a license upgrade or change of address.
The FCC may have already assigned you a FRN number. A quick way to check
is to view your license info on www.qrz.com.
Just enter your callsign and click 'detail info'. If you have a FRN
number, it will be displayed. If you do not see that you have a FRN number
assigned to you, you must register with the FCC web site at http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/
to obtain your new FRN number.
WTB
Reminds ULS and ASR users that FCC Registration Number (FRN) will be required
for all filers effective December 3, 2001
As a result of the implementation of the FRN,
several important changes will occur for filers of ULS and ASR. This Public
Notice is intended to provide guidance to our users about the ensuing changes. (pdf
format - text
format)
http://wireless.fcc.gov/uls/
brings you to the Universal License System (ULS). Select License Search
and enter your call sign. A resulting web page will provide you with your
FRN Number. Bring your FRN number to the VEC testing session for it is now
required on the Form 605. The VEC cannot process your application without
your FRN number.

Exam Schedule
| General Information
The administrative procedures of most exam sessions are very similar
to each other. The following information should be applicable to all exam
sessions in this listing. However, it is advisable to check with the session
coordinator to be sure you have everything you need BEFORE you show up.
All the sessions are walk-in, i.e., there is no pre-registration required.
- Starting December 3, 2001, all current amateur radio license holders must
provide a FRN number when applying for a license upgrade or change of
address.
- Please bring identification that includes a picture of the applicant
on the ID - drivers licenses are quite satisfactory. Parents should
provide some form of identification for non-driving minors. Other forms
of acceptable ID include passports, picture library cards, etc. Note: Some
VECs require two (2) forms of identification.
- Bring both originals and copies of any current amateur license and
any certificates showing credit from a previous exam that you need
to have counted toward a possible new license or upgrade.
- Calculators are allowed, but you must be able to show the examiner
team that the memories of any programmable calculators have been cleared
before the exam starts.
- All needed forms will be supplied by the exam teams - it will
not be necessary to bring an FCC form 605. Pencils and scratch paper are
provided at several of the sessions, but you should probably have one
pen or pencil of your own.
- An examination fee will be charged at each session. This fee
is for the entire session and not an individual element. 2007
testing fee is $14 depending on VEC.
- You should arrive at the exam site at least 15 minutes before the
exam is scheduled to start to begin paperwork processing. No one will
be admitted while a code exam is being given and a code exam, once given,
will usually not be repeated that day, even if you are late.
- Please keep in mind that the exam team members are all volunteers
and are donating their time to help you obtain your license. They make
every effort to be professional and efficient in the exam process, but
they ARE volunteers. We are blessed with more frequent test sessions here
in Atlanta than probably anywhere else in the country, so a lot of folks
are putting in their time. We enjoy doing it or we'd simply quit, but an
occasional "thanks" makes it that much more enjoyable.
