AA Field Target MatchMatch Results, March 13, 1999
Setting the Right Course
by David Still
George Gardner prepared Saturday's match
course to be similar to the second day of the Georgia Southern Regionals. The course
served as a time trial to determine match length for the 40 target course.
The course was found to be well
designed allowing a challenge to both the Spring-Piston and Precharged competitors.
Congratulations to George Gardner winning the match with a score of 38 of 40
targets. Way to go George. Ken Hughes took first place in the Precharged Class
with a score of 36 of 40 targets.
Winston Smith won first place honors in
the Spring Piston Class with a score of 27 of 40 shots. Bennie Davis took second
place with a score of 16 of 40 targets. Bennie, sorry to hear that your scope
shifted.
Robert Crocker's action came loose from
his stock during the beginning of the match. This allowed a once- in-a-lifetime
opportunity for yours truly to experience a win over Crocker. Half way through the
match, Robert made field changes to tighten his metal action to his stock which increased
his accuracy for the remainder of the match. David Still continued shooting
head-to-head with Robert maintaining a two-point lead to take third place in the
Precharged Class.

Saturday Clean up, March 14, 1999
Special thanks to Walt Roller for
spending a weekend preparing the lanes and sight-in areas for pebble stone. During
Saturday's (3/13) match, competitors were surprised to find that all lanes were well
groomed with pebble stone seating areas and the sight-in range was completely resurfaced
with stone. Great job Walt.
After Saturday's match,
volunteers assisted Robert Crocker in erecting a new tarp which extended the sight-in are
an additional 60 percent. Thanks to Doug Vinson, Ken Hughes, Winston Smith, Walt
Roller, David Still, Bennie Davis and George Gardner the range extension was
completed in less than 30 minutes.
Please note that George Gardner has set
aside the following dates for clean up efforts.
