AA Field Target Match

Match Results, April 14, 2001

Match Attendance High - Four States Attend

by David Still

We could have not asked for a nicer day for a Field Target match. Saturday's 60 target match was sunny with no wind with most competitors in their short-sleeved shirts. One of our best attended monthly match with thirteen competitors traveling from four states: Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Doug Vinson continues to demonstrate that he can be the best shooter in the club. Doug scored a 55 of 60 (91.7%) to become Saturday's match champion.

In the Precharged Class, Robert Crocker captured First Place scoring 53 of 60 (88.3%). Ken Hughes positioned himself in Second Place after wining a shoot-off with Kevin Allen. Ken and Kevin scored 51 of 60 (85%). What a big surprise seeing Kevin with his new CRX purchased from David Simpson to take Third Place. Welcome to the Precharged Class.

Brad Troyer, visiting from Huntsville, won the Spring-Piston Class with a score of 40 of 60 (66.7%). Close behind Brad, Joe Whittaker captured Second Place scoring 37 of 60 (61.7%) and Joel Hansel secured Third Place scoring 36 of 60 (60%).

Airgunning Atlanta wishes to welcome Joe Whittaker, Pete Matos and Jim Geddes to our local match and hope you will return to compete with us.  Also, a warm welcome back to David Freeman, shooting a 44 of 60 (73%), yet does not have his own FT airgun. Great shooting David!!

AA Wins Bid for US Nationals

Match Date - October 5 - 7, 2001

American Airgun Field Target Association (AAFTA) informed Airgunning Atlanta earlier this week that the club won the bid on the 2001 US Field Target National Championship match to be held in October. The 2001 national match will be held at the Tom Lowe Shooting Grounds, previously known as Wolf Creek Olympic Shooting Complex, the shooting venue site for the 1996 Olympics.

Two shooting courses will be set up for a 60 target course. The two courses will accommodate an array of uphill, downhill, and level shooting environments to provide a very challenging FT match. The shooting complex has a 50 position, 50-meter indoor/outdoor sight-in range which will be filled with 100+ multi-ranged paper targets for pre-match airgun fine tuning..

After the First Round (Friday) match, will be enjoy a 10-meter airgun exhibition followed by instructional training to interested field target competitors on 10-meter off-hand shooting. After the Second Round (Saturday), an Olympic coach will serve as a range officer for a 50-meter, sitting position, mini-match. This mini-match is set up as a 25-shot, fixed range, course with each shooter having 15 practice shots, then 10 shots for score. The ten-point bulls-eye (10-ring) is only 1/2 inch in diameter at 50 meters. Thanks to the auto-scoring targets, each competitor will immediately know the results of after each shot.

AA anticipates the nationals match to be the best FT event to-date.
